19th Century Parlor Guitar
This guitar is somewhat of a mystery.  The person we bought it from claimed
that the family history said it was a Martin.  We don't think it is.  The only
identifying marks are a stamp on the back of the headstock that says "Root
and Sons Music Company, Chicago, IL" Appears to be spruce top with what
appears to be laminated Brazilian rosewood back and sides. It came with a
really neat "coffin style case"

Condition:  It's had a fair amount of work done on it.  The bridge and saddle
have been replaced, there are spots on the sides that have been glued back
together at the binding, appears to have had at one time oversize friction style
tuners replaced with modern open gear tuners.  All in all even with the
condition problems, it is a cool 12 fret slothead style guitar which features a
nice carved volute at the back of the headstock.  Strap pin has been added at
the heel of the guitar.
